Wordkount is an early access product. It is actively under development, and like any software in active development, things can occasionally go wrong. We want to be completely upfront about what that means for your writing.
Your writing is your responsibility to back up. While we store your work in the cloud and work hard to keep it safe, you should not rely on Wordkount as your only copy of anything important. Please:
The developer takes no responsibility for lost data. By using Wordkount, you acknowledge this is an early access product and accept the risk that data loss, while unlikely, is possible.
We'd rather be honest than have you discover you had no warning if something goes wrong. We genuinely care about your writing — which is exactly why we've built the best backup tools we can.
By creating an account or using Wordkount, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms & Conditions, including the early access data warning above. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Wordkount.
Wordkount is currently in early access. This means:
We strongly encourage you to use the Dropbox backup feature and/or export your work regularly. Automatic backups via Dropbox can be enabled in your settings and will save your work every minute while you write.
The developer accepts no liability for lost, corrupted, or inaccessible data. By using Wordkount during early access, you accept this risk.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Do not share your account with others. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. On deletion, your data will be removed from our servers within a reasonable period.
Everything you write in Wordkount belongs to you. We make no claim to ownership of your writing, ideas, or any other content you create using the service.
You grant Wordkount a limited licence to store and process your content for the sole purpose of providing the service to you. We do not share, sell, or use your writing for any other purpose, including AI training.
You agree not to use Wordkount to write or store content that is illegal, harmful, or violates the rights of others. This includes content that is defamatory, abusive, or that infringes copyright.
You agree not to attempt to access, probe, or damage the systems that run Wordkount.
We store your writing in Google Firebase, a reputable cloud platform. We do our best to keep it safe and backed up. However:
The simplest way to protect your work: connect Dropbox in your settings. It takes about two minutes and creates automatic backups every minute while you write. You can also export a complete copy of your story as JSON at any time.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue Wordkount at any time, with or without notice. In the event of a permanent shutdown, we will provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.
The service is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Wordkount and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or any other losses arising from your use of the service.
This limitation applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, for free users, is zero).
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice within the app. Continued use of Wordkount after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
If you have questions about these terms, please reach out via the contact page. We're a small team and we read everything.
